At the surf beaches of Veluwe aan Zee, we designed a series of objects and interventions that transform the northern strip of Strand Horst into a cohesive, vibrant destination. Through a considered color palette and a consistent design language, the elongated coastal zone is unifiedinto a single, recognizable whole.
Our design draws its reference from staketsels — the temporary wooden frameworks of beach pavilions and boardwalk culture, evoking the laid-back spirit of places like Venice Beach. This aesthetic is translated into a rigid, graphic assembly of lattice-work, beams, and columns. The defining twist: these are permanent structures, fabricated in powder-coated steel and built to be experienced year-round, in every season and weather condition.
The objects are designed for active engagement. Climb the lifeguard stand, gather around the fire pit, or drop into the halfpipe — each element invites the public to inhabit the space on their own terms. Attached flags are left to weather naturally over time, allowing wind and elementsto gradually become co-authors of the overall image.
